Our first deadline

Wednesday is the final deadline for our first Delaware Kids' Directory publication! Am I worried whether it's going to get done in time? Yeah a little. Our graphic artist is great but he is really laid back and I know he has a ton of work to do in the next few days. I only have two things to get to him tomorrow and then it's all up to him.  I like working with him because he is so laid back but then when it comes to deadlines that makes me a little nervous. I am confident though that he is going to do what he has to do but I hate to think that he's going to be swamped with work for the next few days. Josh keeps reminding me that he has had a lot of time to get most of the work done so if he has waited that is his own fault. I agree, it's just easy for me to feel like I should have done something differently.
I am so excited for Wednesday when I don't have to think anymore about selling ads or getting ads ready or any of that for at least a couple of weeks. And I'm even more excited to see our first directory when it is printed. We'll have them in about two weeks.
This whole adventure of starting this business has been quite stressful and difficult at times but I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and seeing that it really is going to be worth it. What has been great is that I've seen that I can do it. What I was most worried about was whether or not I could actually sell ads. There was a big possibility that no one was going to want to spend their hard earned money on advertising in our unknown kids directory. Thankfully, by the grace of God, about twenty people are advertising in our directory which I've heard is really good for your first one. I'm half shocked and completely grateful that I didn't fall on my face. It's so cool to have worked really hard for this and to be so close to seeing the first fruits of my labor!

I remember when we were in college, you said something that really stuck with me concerning deadlines, specifically, with papers and tests.

I think I had a paper due Friday and it was monday or something, and you were like Jess, don't stress about it. When Friday comes, you will have the paper in hand; you'll get it done, you always do.

Ever since then I have always remembered that when it comes to deadlines. Somehow, I would get whatever needed doing done.

Thanks for that!

I am so glad you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Oh--and regarding your graphic artist; isn't he getting paid for this? It's his job to do it--you really don't need to feel bad for giving him a job. A job is a blessing and if he didn't want to do it, he could have said no when you first approached him!

That is so exciting! It will be really cool to see the directory when it's all finished. I understand the feeling of trusting someone else for your deadline a little too well. Colleges love to put people in groups for projects and I remember every group had one person that you just knew was not going to do their work. Of course, that was college and this is real life!

I totally understand being stressed when the rest of the work is up to someone else to finish - out of your control. But I am sure that he will get it done because he knows that in the publishing world if you don't hit your deadline - you don't get the next job!

I didn't know that you had started your own business. Do you think you could do a post to give more info on your business for those of us who don't know a lot about it?

Jess - that's cool you remember that, and it's funny because I remember saying it : ) It's so true too...I keep thinking about how Wednesday will come and then it will be over and done.

Susan- ah man...I remember those days of hoping that everyone would do what they have to but it coming down to just a couple people doing all the work : (

Jamie - I will definitely give some more info on my business...I can't promise it tonight but after Wednesday I feel like anything is possible : ) My website isn't done quite yet or else I would give you that but that will be soon as well.
